Life With Type 2 Diabetes

I went to the nursing home on Saturday instead of Friday. I was determined to go even though my body was aching. The sun started off in the morning shining. That was more of a motivation for me to get out of the house. I had promised last week to one of the residents that I would get him outside on my next visit if the weather was good.

By the time I got there, the sky was turning gray and cloudy. I am so tired of gray cloudy skies. It is May and it should be sun shining a lot. The gray skies constantly causes people to get depressed. I know it does it to me.

When I got to the resident’s room to take him outside, he and I talked about the weather. He said he heard on the morning news that it is going to rain. So we decided to wait for another day. We talked about when was the last time he was outside. When he told me it had been years, except to go to the doctor’s office by wheelchair transportation van. It is sad to hear these wonderful people say no one has done something nice for them in a long time. A simple thing like asking if you can push their wheelchair and take them for a ride or stroll around the grounds. There are 5 deer that come out of the wooded area behind the nursing home. Another volunteer put a salt block out on the lawn for the deer to lick. To watch the deer is so relaxing and peaceful for the residents, staff and volunteers.

I did visit with 19 residents. It is great to be able to visit them and serve the Lord at the same time.

I decided to have pizza for dinner. I know if I eat more than one slice, my blood sugar is affected with a high reading. However I love pizza and don’t eat it every week, maybe once a month. I do have a tendency to eat at least three slices. I ended up having to give myself a shot of Novolog, 5 units. Then at my bedtime blood sugar reading, I had to take 50 units of Lantus to get my blood sugar down back in the normal range this morning.
