Happy Mother’s Day to all my female readers! I got to talk to both of my daughters, my mom and my best friend today! It felt great to able to celebrate Mother’s Day speaking with them. Since my oldest daughter, mom and best friend are so far away, it is hard to get together and celebrate together personally.

I decided to look up some information about how Mother’s Day begin. In wikipedia, the first Mother’s Day was celebrated in 1907 by Anna Marie Jarvis to honor her mother, Anna Maria Reeves Jarvis, who had passed away 2 years earlier on May 9, 1905 in Grafton, West Virginia. Grafton is now known as the birthplace of Mother’s Day. The first official recognition of this holiday was in West Virginia in 1910. On May 14, 1910, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.

Poem by Nicholas Gordon
“Happy Mother’s Day” Means More

“Happy Mother’s Day” means more
Than have a happy day.
Within those words lie lots of things
We never get to say.

It means I love you first of all,
Then thanks for all you do.
It means you mean a lot to me,
And that I honor you.

But most of all, I guess it means
That I am thinking of
Your happiness on this, your day,
With pleasure and with love.

Happy Mother’s Day Mom! I love you and appreciate all you did for me.
