Tomorrow I need to go buy a new pair of shoes to go with a new outfit to wear for graduation. It has been so long since I have bought myself a new outfit or shoes. With my feet problem and wide width, I want a pair of sexy shoes that will make my outfit look stunning. This graduation sure is getting more and more expensive. Wonder what the party will end up costing us.
It is hard for me to think of some different graduation gifts for some of the students that are graduating with my daughter. I have watched some of them grow up since the fourth grade when my daughter and I moved up North. Time has gone so quickly.
A young man, Brandon, that was the first young person and also neighbor that came over and introduced him to us, I feel he deserves a special gift of gold cufflinks. His friendship over the years has grown so special. He is the type to stand out in a crowd. His participation in school plays and choir has given him lead parts and solos. At the Prom, he definitely was dressed most debonair. I know he will definitely like this gift.
I am a bit envious of some friends of my daughter that are going to Outer Banks, North Carolina again this year. Several families go together and rent a house in Outer Banks, making it affordable for them. Several years ago, they invited my daughter to go with them. My daughter had a great time down there for a week. She told me the beaches are a little different than the Gulf coast beaches that we are use to going to. She told me about a lighthouse they went to see there.
I am longing for a vacation and getting to see a beach too. Praying these gas prices slow down going up so high.
Counting down the days till my ex-brother-in-law gets here on Saturday. I thought he was going to arrive on Friday, however he has to work till noon on Saturday. He will be arriving about the time we need to leave to go to the high school to be able to park near the high school and reserve enough seats for the family for the graduation. My daughter told me that there will be about 2000 people at the stadium. I am praying it does not rain, even though the weatherman is already saying 60% chance of rain for Saturday.
I have been working each day doing some cleaning, rehanging pictures, steaming cleaning carpets upstairs and tomorrow downstairs. My body has been rebelling at all the work I have been doing. I am happy to see progress being made each day. A family member has been helping some too. It seems like the cleaning is never ending and keeping it maintained is another matter for me. I have to constantly work on my organizational skills due to I am a clutter butt. I don’t like to throw away ANY receipts, including grocery store, bills, etc. I think I have receipts from 10 years ago. I just remember my dad always saying don’t throw them away in case the IRS audits you. So I have a hard time letting go of things I know I don’t need to keep anymore.
Today, I received several blessings. I went to the hospital to visit two of our church members that are in there. They both were very happy to see me come in. I thought as it was a Sunday afternoon, people usually visit patients. However with it being Memorial Day weekend, one had only one visitor all weekend plus myself. The other one had not received any visitors except me. So they both were glad to have someone to talk to about church and all.
Went to my church service this morning and then went to a friend of mines service this afternoon for an hour before visiting at the hospital. I enjoyed her service very much. When I got home, I found 4 phone calls from friends. Two were from old friends that I had not spoken to in over 2 years. When I returned the phone calls, each one was a blessing. Getting to catch up on old time, how much our children had grown, how many grandchildren they had. They were surprised that my daughters were not married nor had I any grandchildren yet. I learned about the tragic death of one of my old friend’s husband. Memories flashed through my mind as we talked about the good old days when our children were young, having backyard BBQ and going out for a girl’s night out. I am so glad they called me today and we reconnected.
Tomorrow I will get to spend time with family member having a backyard BBQ with lots of goodies. It is so easy to overeat and eat too much carbohydrates. I made potato salad for the celebration. Each family member is bringing a dish to contribute. We are celebrating Memorial Day to honor and remember our Veterans who are fighting and fought for our freedom.
I feel like I have been on a marathon this week. Finally got the bathroom and upstairs hallway all painted. With my arthritis condition in my hands, wrist and joints, I have had a lot of pain, however I had perseverance due to the time frame to get things ready for my ex-brother-in-laws’ arrival. I still have my office and dining room to straighten up. I have filing to be done, sort and throw aways to do. I have about 4 days of emails to go through and post on forums I belong to.
I took a break from the house to go to do my weekly nursing home visit yesterday. As soon as I walked in the door, I saw my long time friend and the eldest resident, she is 103. I got mixed up on her age in a previous post and stated she is 104. Anyway, she is still bright minded and such a sweetheart. She is in a manual wheelchair and pushed herself up until 6 months ago the nurse told me. I always enjoy my precious time with her. Yesterday she called out to me as I was leaving, “I love you always! Come back as soon as you can. Drive safe.” This amazing woman has so much love to still give at her age with care and concern for me. I am truly blessed! Next time I go to see her, we planned to go for a stroll outside the building in the sunshine. I may have to bring some sun glasses for her to wear and a hat. The nursing home facility has a picnic table and a glider swing near the walk trail where plenty of people are using the trail now. She will get to smell the outside air, get to feel the sunshine, get to see new faces going by and just maybe the deers will be out and she can see them more up close. The deers are so calm around the building. The facility even put food and salt blocks out for the deers. They are so beautiful and serene to look at as they gently graze and walk, but if anyone try to approach them they will leave the area.
Today, I hope to accomplish household chores and get some of my computer work done. Trying to make a schedule work and keep a time frame per task is not working at the moment for me. Still more being added to my ever growing to do list.
Talked to my friend, Coleman, about how he was doing with his diabetes. He has gotten his glucometer and is learning how to use it. I have learned not all blood sugar meters are the same. There are so many different features and settings. I even have a problem understanding instruction manuals that come with the meters. Finding a blood glucose meter that is right for you, depends on a few simple questions to yourself:
1. Do I want a very simple meter that only stores that reading till the next reading?
2. Do I want a meter that allows alternate site and finger readings?
3. Do I want one that keeps a logbook of my readings, health, exercise, etc.?
My youngest daughter has always worn boardshorts over her bathing suit bottoms. She is conscientious about her looks. She tells me how comfortable they are to wear. Even though, we don’t have a beach near us, they can still be worn as a regular bathing trunk for men or as shorts for women going to the lake. Hopefully, one day this summer we will get to a beach.
With the upcoming weekend in June at the cabin with the family, there is a swimming pool to use. I look forward to going swimming and getting some sun. I tried on some of my older ones and they are wore out and don’t fit anymore. I need a new swimsuit One that would make me looks slimmer and more up to date. I am partial to wearing a one piece swimsuit since I am older and had two children. Also, the last time I wore a two piece, I dove off a high diving board and my top went flying up as soon as I entered the water. How embarrassing! So I am sticking to a one piece.

We have been trying to figure out still where to go for a short vacation with the continuing rise in gas prices. Since my youngest daughter is graduating soon and she wants a graduation party, we have been conserving our money. Also, one of her dad’s jobs is closed for part of the summer, which makes finances tight for him. We were talking last night about our financial situations for the summer. He also told me that his brother was coming down for Heather’s graduation. I told him I have the extra bedroom in my house that his brother can stay in while here. It will be great to see my ex-brother-in-law. I haven’t seen him since he was in the hospital from his liver transplant several years ago when we all drove up to see him there.
Last week, my ex-mother-in-law called me and asked if I was interested in coming to stay in a cabin out of town with her and her husband and 5 other family members for Father’s Day weekend. I told her it would be so nice to be around the family. She told me that she still had to call and see if any cabins were available for the size of the family and how much. That is when I realized that it was going to be another unexpected expense of sharing the cabin cost, gasoline, food and beverages added to my already tight budget for the month of June. The saying, can’t win for losing, seems to be my motto for the month of June.
