My youngest daughter will going to Disney World in Florida at the end of next month with her high school band to play at Disney’s request. Since we haven’t had a lot of sun or warmth in the past 5 months, my daughter is concerned about getting sunburned while at Disney. With the change in temperature from the North to Florida, she will be sweating while performing there and getting to go around the park and ride some rides. At the hotel, the students will be able to go swimming in the outdoor pool. She will definitely need protection from the sun.

She will need to purchase UV Natural SPF 30+ Sunscreen to protect her fair colored skin from burning and one that will hold up during sweating or is water-proof. She is also concerned about a sunscreen that will not aggravate her acne. Using a sunscreen made with natural ingredients and natural fragrances will help with her acne, since she has oily skin is a big plus.

Teenagers are concerned with their skin and it is important to help them learn about using the correct product that gives them the right protection. With this being a major event in my daughter’s last year of high school, she wants to look right for the band’s performance at Disney World on March 28th.

I received a surprise that I was nominated for Santa’s Blog of the Day and won! I don’t win many things in my life, however it is so nice that someone thought a lot of me to submit my blog. This is really neat!

I feel like a winner that God has blessed me with great friends too. Connie from Brain Foggles is so wonderful for getting me started blogging and helping me learn about many aspects of having a blog.

My friend, Coleman, from The Ramblings of An Inquisitive Idiot has been an incredible friend to me. I meet him through Disabled Online Users Association. He taught me about HTMLs. I had no clue even what it was or how to make one before Coleman taught me. He has so much patience and I am truly thankful for all of his help.

I am grateful for the blessings and Santa making me a winner!

Years ago, I obtained a beautiful wall clock that I am not sure where it was manufactured; however the movement was not maintained. I have been thinking about buying a new one. The quality craftsmanship of wall clocks adds beauty to any home décor. I have always been fascinated with clocks. When I was young, a friend’s house had a grandfather clock in their hall. I would listen to the beautiful chiming on each hour and half hour.

Though, I do not have room for a grandfather clock, I do have room on my living room wall for a Howard Miller clock. I love the Howard Miller David wall clock with the Windsor Cherry finish as it accents with the cherry wood around my windows in my living room and dining room. The David wall clock has the keywound Winchester movement with the silence chime option if I do not wish to hear the chime. On the face of the clock, it has the Roman numerals like I want. I have a thing for Roman numerals even on my wrist watch. This gorgeous wall clock is just what I am looking for in my home and it is very similar to my old one.

It is amazing how clocks can transform the look of a home. They are a family heirloom.

Everyday for the past week, we have received phone calls from Hillary Clinton. Of course, ALL the calls are a recording and she sounds frantic about something Barack Obama has said against her or her husband, Bill. I understand someone being upset about someone trying to smear their “good name”. However to receive the same frantic recorded message each day is a big turn off, especially when you are waking me up early in the morning and on weekends.

At first, I understood. The second call I had a conversation with you telling you “Hellllooooo Hillary! How are you today? Do you want to meet for lunch today or tomorrow? Let me check with my secretary.” The rest of the calls are starting to seem like a stalker. Isn’t there a law on the books against repeatedly calling someone? You should know you are a lawyer.

By the way, Hillary, when did you move to Virginia to call me? I thought you lived in New York or do you live part-time in Arkansas? I am not sure where you live anymore with the number of phone calls from you. I do know you live on Earth. Earth to Hillary, please don’t call everyday to tell me the same ole’ thing girl. I know women love to gossip but this is getting to be old news. You don’t have to sound frantic anymore; I think the people have gotten the point by now. Be sure to tell Bill hi and the next time you are in our neck of the woods, please stay for dinner. We don’t charge a thousand dollars a plate to talk to you either. We show you how we manage to feed our whole family dinner for under $5. So be sure to stop by for some Southern hospitality but please get my point, don’t call everyday telling me the same ole stuff. Heck, my relatives only call once or twice a month and that is enough for me. Can I add you to that list too?

My youngest daughter is now dating a young man that has had a crush on her since her freshman year in high school. He took her to her first high school dance back then. Being young and being in love, young women like their boyfriends to be more romantic. With her senior prom coming soon, she is doing a lot of planning for both of them.

She is the type of young lady to bake cookies in heart shapes or bake cupcakes in cute little heart shaped foil containers for him and his family. She decorates the cupcakes with icing and the conversational heart candies. From her cell phone to his, her text messages telling him “I love you”. She leaves notes telling him “I miss you” on his car windshield. It is so cute seeing them in young love.

One of my pet peeves is junk mail whether it is snail mail or email. Since last week, I started receiving in my mailbox political propaganda from presidential candidates to State Representatives. Having both a Republican and a Democrat living in the same household can get into some difference opinions.

However, we both agree on one thing, it is ridiculous to receive in one day’s mail four (4) pieces of mail from the same person running for an elected position. Then the next day, maybe 2 or 3 pieces of mail from the same candidate that sent the 4 the day before. The next day after that, a repeat of the day before with the mail received. No wonder the budget the candidates need to operate on is so high. Isn’t mailing out one piece of mail once a week enough for them? We see the candidates on the TV too.
Even the post office is making plenty of money on all this bulk mass mailing they are doing. The poor mail carriers are lugging all those duplicate mailings from those same candidates each day. My back would definitely break under that kind of load everyday.

The sad part for that propaganda mail is that it ends in the trash can, better known as File 13 in my household. I think of all the trees that are cut down each year for making paper. If one candidate could show Americans how they can start saving us money by cutting down on the number of pieces of mail that they send out each day, it would be a big step for mankind and the poor trees.

I have been in need of some new drapes or blinds on some of my windows in my home for some time. I decided to check around town and online and see which way was the best way for my money and what I could get. I have in my dining room on one wall the equivalent of three windows length that I need a new window treatment.

After searching for companies that offer what I am looking for, I discovered JustBlinds.com on the internet that offers a variety of blinds, free shipping and free samples for me to look through. I like the fact that they are a member of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and bbbonline.com and have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee.

I decided on fabric vertical blinds; PVC, fabric or faux wood available, since it would give the window a beautiful window covering for that length of window. It would allow me to have as much light or as little light coming into the room as I wanted. With their super low discount prices, it makes it affordable to buy from them with their secure online ordering. My order could be shipped within 5 to 7 days. It is exciting to think about having new custom vertical blinds for my dining room window.

The mechanic called me at home after getting my van up on the rack. He informed me that the job was going to be more expensive than he thought. I am thinking, Oh No! Apparently the brake pads were completely wore off. I asked him how that could be possible since they were the ones who replaced them last year. He told me how rusted the metal was that held the pad material on. He also, informed me about a bad idler arm. He told me $317.00 to fix it all. I was upset to say the least having to replace not only brake pads, but also calipers and both router plates and now an idler arm.

My van’s steering has seemed fine to me with the only exception of when I had pressed on the brake it did pull very slightly to the right.

Not being able to do this kind of job on my van and the snowy conditions and no place to perform the work, I told the mechanic to go ahead and do the work. When he was done, he called me and told me what the final cost was with the tax. The bill is now up to $338.72 with $22.16 of it being state sales tax and $15 shop fee to dispose of the parts per State regulation. It sure is expensive to get a vehicle repaired when you can’t do it yourself. He did show me all the parts that were removed from my van. The salt that is put on the roads in the winter months sure do bad things to a vehicle.

Being disabled and at the mercy of a mechanic is hard for me financially, but is a necessity. I was able to go pick up my daughter’s boyfriend from work tonight, because he has been experiencing seizures again and is not allowed to drive. It is snowing again and the roads are slick, I am so glad my brakes are fixed plus the new idler arm.

As a diabetic I got to thinking about when I am out in public if something should happen to me and I am unable to tell someone I am a diabetic. I need to wear an Emergency Medical Alert bracelet or necklace that lets anyone know that I am a diabetic. Getting proper treatment immediately is vital to my life.

I discovered americanmedical-id.com carries the bracelet or necklace I need. I can even get it custom engraved. They also have available beautiful non-medical jewelry. I saw a gorgeous four picture heart locket that I fell in love with on their website.

While driving yesterday to go take my daughter’s boyfriend to work, I noticed that my brakes were making a grinding noise when I went to stop at a red light. I am not sure if it is the brake calipers or the pads. The pressure plate sounds like something is digging into it.

After driving carefully home, I made a phone call to my mechanic shop. After speaking to the owner about if he was available to work on my brake system tomorrow, he assured me he would take care of the problem for me.

It is great to know I have a mechanic that I can trust to take care of my vehicle. There are so many rip off mechanics operating in this world that are quick to overcharge a woman for having work performed on their vehicle. I have caught in my past other mechanics charging me for work they never did. My dad and two brothers taught me a lot about vehicles while I was growing up. I know when to not try to perform certain jobs by myself.

Every vehicle I have owned since 1972, I have always bought a Chilton mechanic book. They have the best instructions and zoom photos of the area they are explaining in their book. However due to my bad knee, I am not able to get down under a vehicle and do the work myself anymore. My mechanic will just have to do the work this time. I sure wasn’t counting on having another extra expense this month.
