I am still working on stop smoking. I am not going to give up! Each day the Chantix GetQuit support calls. Sometimes I listen to the suggestions they give to help me, i.e. writing a goodbye letter to cigarettes, wash ashtrays or throw them away, throw remaining cigarettes away and clean out my vehicle ashtray. These are all great suggestions. Sometimes I talk to a counselor about certain issues I am having. The other night I woke to a severe craving at 3 AM. Not sure why it happened. It took me till after 4 to go back to sleep, but not a deep sleep till much later.

I still have not written the letter. Guess I have never liked goodbye letters, reason is it is hard for me to write one. I have washed ashtrays. I have told myself out of the 12 places I normally would have smoked, I can’t smoke in certain places anymore. It is working for me.

Today, my Chantix pill dosage increased to a 1 mg pill twice a day. Previously, the dosage was 0.5 mg twice a day after the third day. I noticed the difference within an hour after taking the higher dosage. I had not ate my breakfast and my stomach was getting upset. I know better not to take medications without eating first. I talked to a friend of mine about it. He is so supportive and encouraging me to get totally quit. He was able to cold turkey over two weeks ago. I admire him for being able to do that method. However, it is not the method for me.

My blood sugar levels have been great since I have been on Chantix. This morning’s reading was 88. My afternoon blood sugar was 133. This is great to know the Chantix has helped with control my blood sugar also.

Today, I have only had about 8 puffs. Did let a cigarette burn away that I forgot in an ashtray outside while talking to a neighbor. I am very pleased with my overall progress. Today has been the best day so far!

The most effective way to quit smoking is by the use of prayer and the reading of NT scripture.
I tried everything else so I should know!
This approach get’s to work by realigning one’s spiritual moral-compass which helps to make a person understand that what they are doing is effectively bringing about their own death.

Thanks to a book called “Shattering your strongholds” by Liberty Savard, I managed to give up drinking and then quit smoking 3 weeks later. During that time and because of commitment to a spiritual approach, I had no cravings. Now, 3 years later, I cannot bear the smell of it.
Since then, the same book has enabled 3 of my friends to quit smoking in a very short time.

If you have an open-mind and are willing to commit to this “inner” work, you will come to experience the power of God to transform you and give you the same resolve and will to give up.

    Good luck!

Hang in there, you are not alone in this. I am struggling with this nasty addiction too. Not to mention all of the other Entrecarders that are in the process of quitting too. I have been using the magnets and they are helping but, I think that I need to add in the nicotine gum along with them? If you need to talk, you know where to find me. Just shoot me an email =)

I am very proud of you in your efforts to quit smoking. I have quit before and I think that may be one reason I was able to quit cold turkey. That and the fact that I felt bad the first two days and didn’t go outside much. Having a no smoking house also helps a lot. Though my computer is not in the house and this is where typically I would smoke a pack or two a day.
Don’t beat yourself up too much if you have trouble keeping to your schedule. Nicotine is a very powerful drug which is more addictive than heroin.
