This is a Tony Weller 281 Beswick
England Character Jug Mug. This Jug or Mug is approximately 6 7/8" high
and approximately 7"
wide, the handle is a cane or whip. The character Tony Weller is from
Charles Dickens (1812 - 1870), "The Pickwick Papers" which was
published in monthly parts from March 1836 - Oct 1837. The bottom of
the jug or mug has impressed in the ceramic, in block letters "BESWICK
ENGLAND 281" a signature "Tony Weller". This jug or mug is glazed
inside and out. The inside of jug or mug is white. The coloring on
this jug is delightful. See photos.
Beswick
located in
Longton, Staffordshire, England produced a fine porcelain product very
similar in look and quality to Royal Doulton, from the 1930's to
present when bought out by Royal Doulton. This is one of their very
early pieces from the Dickens series.
Condition of this item is unusual
and in very good condition for its age except where it had a
small
chip in the front rim of jug and someone tried to repair
it.
I am not sure of the age of this piece. I
have tried to describe this item to the best of my ability.
Can add this to your
collection. Great
gift for yourself or for a loved one!
